I was able to read a lot in June so this update reflects that. Just a reminder that I use The Story Graph to track my reading and you can find me there under the user name mama_mcgoozle. I also do a lot of my reading on Scribd (referral link for 60 days free for you). Cover images link to the bookshop.org listing when possible.

Solito by Javier Zamora
This book was recommended as a summer read (with study guide) by Women of Welcome. It was a challenging read due to subject material but a worthwhile one I think.

A Place to Belong: Celebrating Diversity and Kinship in the Home and Beyond by Amber O’Neal Johnston
I’ve followed Amber for a number of years now and love the voice she brings to the homeschool space. I will probably be buying a copy of this book because it is so good. I didn’t love the few references to sexual diversity that appeared in the book but those also led to some good discussions with Mr. McGoozle so they were worth it.

I could hardly put this book down. It was a fascinating, up-close look at world history 1970s-early 2000s through one man’s career in areas of crisis. Definitely recommend.

Bible
We are reading through the Bible this year with a group of people from our church. In May & June we finished Judges, Romans, Ruth, Ephesians, 1 & 2 Samuel, Philemon, Proverbs, Colossians, 1 & 2 Kings, Jonah, Philippians, Luke 1-9, and Psalms 72-94.
Still reading into July…

Jack vs. the Tornado (Tree Street Kids #1) by Amanda Cleary Eastep
New book with the kids. Did not read the description closely and it’s a great book but it’s been super emotional for me because of so many parallels with our lives recently (moving from country to city, leaving a pet behind, Dad traveling for work, ages of kids in book, etc.).

Hanan Issa is the National Poet of Wales and I think some announcement about her post is how I found this slim book of poems.
