I don’t have a day-in-the-life to share this week because we were sick a lot of this week. Instead, I have a lot of pictures to share of the past month or so with some brief comments so you have an idea of what we’ve been up to.
Skiing
We started the year off with 6 weeks of skiing lessons at a small local hill. Squeaky got to come for the last 2 weeks although she spent much of her time at the hill being a baby sloth. She did surprisingly well with the strap on skis we had (in her 1/2 run down the bunny hill anyway). Stubby and Smiley amaze me with their skills. The hill set up a slalom course for the last week of skiing and timed the kids coming down the hill. Unfortunately Squeaky needed a potty break just before Stubby’s run so I didn’t get pictures but he made it through the course in 1:11. I didn’t actually get any pictures of him skiing this year- he was too fast for me! Smiley made it down the race course in 1:55. This was our 3rd or 4th year doing ski lessons and it’s fun to watch the kids progress and see friends that we don’t see much throughout the rest of the year.
Travels
Mr. McGoozle has been gone a lot over the past month. He spent 3 weeks in British Columbia, Canada and there was much rejoicing once he finally made it back. He got to ski with us for the last week of lessons and I think did the race course in 0:54. My parents kindly watched the kids for us so we had a little getaway before shocking him back to “regular” life. We took a week off of school, hung out with family, and worked together to clean up and organize our basement. He was able to be home from work all that week and then left for a 5-day trip to Pennslyvania, USA. He just landed back in Montana as I’m typing this post.
School
We started school on January 9 after the Christmas break, took off one week last week, and we have 3 weeks left in Term 2! We took a field trip to a local mineral museum with our after-school group so that was cool. Squeaky has been working hard on writing her name and it’s so sweet. We also did a science experiment to extract DNA from a strawberry and recently acquired a microscope.
Projects & Skills
Other Fun
We try to start our school day with a walk and I always enjoy taking pictures of the kids as they explore! And just some other fun pictures.
I think that pretty well covers the highlights. See you next week to talk about books (some really good ones this month!).
